The EKKA is here for another year!

How I love this time of year - the mornings are fresh, the sun is glorious (not frying like in summer) and the strawberry ice creams are waiting for me at the Ekka.

Last Sunday I dropped off my creations to the epic Fine Arts Exhibition that is held at the Ekka every year. They are of course full of colour and quirkyness!

Let me introduce them to you one by one...

Tilly and Milly Toucan
76cm x 76cm, acrylic on canvas.

Tilly and Milly Toucan

This mum and bub are hanging out in their Amazon forest and wondering what all the other boring black Toucans are doing. They are full of rich purple feathers with flushes of red and orange. Their beaks are a colourful to the hilt with greens, orange, aqua, and gold. They would love to fly into someones home and live happily ever after with their new family.

Australian Floral Blooms
76cm x 76cm, acrylic on canvas.

Australian Floral Blooms

Australian Floral Blooms is a mixture of retro with a modern wallpaper and a explosion of florals. The vase is inspired by West German pottery and the wallpaper is my take on polka dots. The floral colours and shapes are purely instinctual as I don't use a photo reference for the composition. It is just how I see a bouquet in my mind when I start painting. This artwork is full of colour but is still soft and soothing due to the soft colours in the wallpaper and highlights of pastels throughout the painting. This artwork has already found a wonderful home and the new collector can't wait to see it in her home.

George the Turtle
76cm x 76cm, acrylic on canvas.

George the Turtle

Already George is proving to be a huge hit! When I had him on display at my regular Twilight Market so many people fell in love with him even though he does look a bit grumpy. George is a vibrant green, blue and pink sea turtle. He is swimming above the orange, gold and yellow sea floor looking for tasty morsels of food. He does look a bit grumpy but perhaps he just has a resting bitch face 😂. I am sure he would brighten up someones home with his mixture of bright colours and subdued aquas and greens.
